JSO: 6-year-old drowned in retention pond in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 7 p.m. 11/23/2019: The Jacksonville Association of Firefighters communications director confirmed that a fundraiser was set up to help the family of a 6-year-old boy who drowned off Hodges Boulevard Friday.

The child's father, Arthur Gray, works for the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Original story: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a 6-year-old drowned in a retention pond of Hodges Boulevard on Friday just after 4 p.m.

Action News Jax reporter Ryan Nelson spoke with neighbors. What they witnessed on FOX30 at 10.

The 6-year-old boy was taken to the hospital where he died, according to JSO.

A care giver was watching the child at the time of the drowning, the Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office said it is speaking with witnesses and it is looking for surveillance video.
