JSO says missing child alert results in deadly drowning

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has said that a young child drowned in a pond after being reported missing.

At 5:48 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 3, officers arrived to 1600 Avenger Ln. after dispatch received calls of a missing 2 1/2-year-old child.

Additional units including K9, air unit, drone unit, the dive team and the missing person’s unit were all requested.

A dozen officers immediately sprung into action, looking for the child. Home surveillance video determined the direction the child was headed.

“A JSO bloodhound was able to obtain a scent of the child and was tracked to a pond that was in the neighborhood,” said JSO Lt. Mike Silcox.

The child was located in the pond and officers began CPR.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported the child to a local hospital but he was pronounced dead.
