JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local foundation wants moms with sick children to enjoy their special day.
On Thursday, the Believe Foundation handed out free Mother's Day gifts to mothers with children fighting cancer.
"A lot of it falls on the moms during this journey," Tabitha Parson said.
Parson had firsthand experience with taking care of a child with cancer.
Couple Tabitha and Kris Parson started the Believe Foundation when their daughter, Carolina, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor when she was 7 years old.
Now, four years later, Carolina is cancer free.
"In her doctor's words, her scans are perfect. We are very, very thankful for that," Kris Parson, Carolina's father said.
The Parson family dropped off 30 bags filled with gift cards for moms with kids being treated for cancer at the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute.
Each gift bag has a value of $180.
Over 90 percent of these families traveled to Jacksonville to receive specialized treatment.
The Parson family said their mission is to make the Mother's Day of moms who are constantly by the side of their sick child and will do anything for their family, a memorable one.
"The whole thing is just to know somebody cares and somebody is thinking about them," Tabitha said.
