A local woman is warning people about a scam call in which someone pretends to be from Medicare and attempted to steal her information.
Sally Vondey said that last week, she got a call from an odd number.
“Well, I received a call from a lady stating that she was with Medicare. It came in as a toll-free number, so right away, that was an alert that’s not Medicare," Vondey said.
She said the person on the other end of the phone took an aggressive tone demanding that she give up information.
That’s when she called Medicare to alert the agency and the representative told her to call the Federal Trade Commission and police if she received another scam call.
Two hours later, she received a robocall.
“When they called back and said they were filing a lawsuit, I’m, like, Oh my goodness. If I had been in a different position, I might’ve fallen into their trap,” Vondey said.
According to the Better Business Bureau, Medicare will not call people on the phone. It will notify you by mail.
Now, Vondey’s warning other people so they don’t fall victim.
