FHP: 3-year-old hit, killed by car after walking onto JTB from disabled vehicle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol has reported a 3-year-old killed after being struck by a vehicle in the area of J. Turner Butler Blvd. Eastbound and Kernan Boulevard on Wednesday night.

FHP said a Gray 2001 GMC Yukon became disabled and stopped in the right emergency lane of eastbound JTB, also known as State Road 202.

When the vehicle was stopped on the shoulder, a 3-year-old passenger exited the car and wandered into the travel lane of eastbound SR 202.

This resulted in a red 2019 Audi striking the toddler in the travel lane.

The child was transported to a local hospital, where she was unfortunately pronounced dead from her injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Audi immediately stopped and attempted to render aid to the toddler.

The eastbound travel lanes of Butler Blvd. were closed for this investigation.
