An Uber driver is accused of inappropriately touching a child at a local church.

Justin Michael Hughes is charged with lewd/lascivious molestation of a child under 12 years old.

According to the arrest report, the 30-year-old suspect told numerous people at Victory Chapel he ‘inappropriately touched’ the child.

Action News Jax reporter Beth Rousseau called and stopped by the church, but no one answered.

No one was home when she went to the address listed on the report, but a vehicle with an Uber sticker was parked outside.

“It’s always a sad thing, it’s just very sad. I hate to see that happen to anyone,” said neighbor Donald Goss.

Action News Jax spoke to several neighbors who said they didn’t know Hughes, all agreed they’re alarmed by the charge.

“It would be devastating, I mean, it never happened to my girls but it would be devastating for something like that to happen to your daughter like that, or son,” explained on woman.

Others are surprised Hughes made it through the development’s screening process.

Goss said, “It does concern me because people in here do have children and I don’t want anyone to feel unsafe in this neighborhood.”
