Man arrested in Georgia for local murder

Suspect and victim were part of an attempted robbery together

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 42-year-old man was arrested Saturday in Georgia for a murder in Jacksonville that happened in March.

Simmie Lee Lott was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task force in Valdosta, Georgia. On Wednesday, he was transported to Jacksonville.

Lott is accused of shooting and killing Austin Douglas during an aggravated battery and attempted robbery on March 2 in the area of 12000 Woodbridge Court. Police said Lott, Douglas, and one other suspect were involved in the robbery and that during the course of committing those offenses, Douglas was shot and killed as a result.

Police found Douglas in the area of 1800 Atlantic Blvd. where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lott is being charged with Felony Murder, Attempted Murder, Attempted Home Invasion Robbery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
