Pedestrian dies after hit by 2 vehicles in St. Johns County, authorities say

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A pedestrian was hit and killed walking along US 1 near the airport in St Johns County, authorities said.

The incident happened Friday at about 1:15 a.m. on US 1 at Estrella Avenue.

The area was temporarily closed to traffic as officials investigated. The lanes of US 1 opened to drivers just after 5:30 a.m. Friday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the victim, who hasn't been identified, was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle is believed to be maroon Ford, unknown type. The Ford did not stop and the left the scene, FHP said.

Another driver, a 28-year-old from Jacksonville, hit the pedestrian.

A note was allegedly written by a driver in the crash who drove down the road for help. Action News Jax was told the driver was hearing impaired and he wrote a letter to a clerk for help, who called for help. Troopers said the man is cooperating with investigators.
