Officials are investigating after a man lost his leg saving his fiancee during a boating accident in St. Augustine on Saturday night.

Wildlife officials said four people were injured when their boat was hit by a larger ski boat under the Vilano Bridge around 11 p.m.

One of the boaters, Logan Farquhar, lost part of his leg from the crash.

Farquhar’s fiancée Billie Inman said she woke up to the sound of a much larger boat coming at them from behind. She said Farquhar pushed her out of the way.

“I was right there and the water was just rushing in,” said Inman. “And I thought I was going to die.”

Inman said the propeller of the ski boat cut off his lower leg.

The four boaters were pulled to safety.

Inman says the ski boat driver fled the scene. He was eventually questioned by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials.

Dakota Smith believes the ski boat driver didn’t even see them.

“He ran right over our boat from the back all the way to the front and jumped it,” said Smith “It was like Dukes of Hazard, that’s all I could think. This guy is trying to use our boat as a ramp.”

Both boats have been seized as evidence and FWC said the ski boat driver could face criminal charges.

Farquhar's family started a GoFundMe account to help pay for his medical bills. They said his insurance won't cover the physical therapy he requires.
