JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man who was stabbed in a home invasion robbery attempted to call his mother after the incident.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a person reportedly stabbed early Tuesday morning at a Gate gas station on Emerson Street in the Pine Forest area.
The witness told officials the man appeared to be bleeding from the chest. The witness told police the man, who was identified as 19-year-old Elvedin Zukic, tried to call his mother and initially didn’t want to call the police about his injury.
The witness then called for medical assistance, and Zukic was taken to UF Health Jacksonville for treatment.
Police then connected Zukic to a reported home invasion robbery earlier in the morning about a mile away at the Sable Palms Apartments.
The victim, who is deaf, confirmed that Zukic was the man who entered the apartment.
The victim said the front door was open for fresh air when the suspect approached the door and simulated that he had a gun through a jacket pocket. JSO said the victim tried to convey that he didn’t understand Zukic, who he believed was demanding money. Zukic entered the apartment, and the victim quickly went to his room and grabbed a sword to protect himself, JSO said.
Zukic was at the doorway when the victim stabbed him in the abdominal area, JSO said. Zukic then ran out the front door.
The victim’s mother and a family friend were in the apartment at the time, but didn’t see anything.
Zukic was arrested and charged with home invasion robbery and possession of marijuana.
