The Mayport-based USS Hue City has rescued three fishermen from the water off Brunswick, GA.
The Coast Guard 7th District received an EPIRB alert from the 42-foot fishing vessel Barbara Lynn around 3:30AM, and subsequently released an “enhanced group calling message” to other resources in the area.
The USS Hue City’s crew received that message, and was only about a mile away from the last known location of the vessel.
They then saw orange flares and flashing lights, and were able to find the three fishermen in a raft, surrounded by debris.
The fishermen were pulled up by the USS Hue City crew and then put on a SH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter to Naval Station Mayport, where they could be medically attended to.
