MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A man swallowed balloons of heroin when he and a woman suspected of stealing $100,000 of items from a Marion County home were arrested after their truck caught fire on the side of the road, deputies said.
Lane Ravey swallowed five balloons of heroin and tried to hide paraphernalia near his rectum after deputies say they found him and Natalie Kaiser in the road near the smoking pick up truck.
Witnesses told police the two had broken into and stolen from a home on Southeast132nd Street Sunday afternoon.
When deputies approached the truck, Ravey grabbed a long, rifle-type gun out of the cab of the truck, deputies said.
Deputies arrested Ravey and Kaiser and called fire rescue to put out flames that began to engulf the truck.
Deputies said Ravey refused to identify himself and was placed in restraints after he began to kick the window bars in the back of the patrol car.
Ravey told deputies he swallowed five balloons of heroin before he was taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital and is in the intensive care unit.
Paramedics found a glass pipe, stolen items and a plastic bag of heroin near Ravey's rectum during his arrest.
Deputies say they also found plastic bags with methamphetamine and pills and the remnants of a marijuana blunt on Ravey.
Kaiser was arrested on outstanding Marion County warrants and both were charged with armed residential burglary and grand theft.
Deputies said of the $100,000 in belongings that were stolen from the home, only a motor bike, two gold coins, one silver coin and two hats were recovered and returned to the victim.
