Cars and trucks getting stuck at the Mayport jetties is a weekly sight.
Two Mayport residents, tired of seeing people get stuck, jumped in to help.
“We watched a brand-new pickup get totaled. The river came in too fast and took it out,” said Daniel Severson.
They started a Facebook group, Mayport Jetties Off Road Recovery. Anyone who is stuck can message the group, and Joshua Gann and Severson will come and help.
“We started this out of the goodness of our hearts because these are our personal trucks,” said Gann.

They said that since they started the group three weeks ago, they’ve saved seven cars and trucks from sinking in the river.
They said the sand there is tricky to maneuver around.
“You walk out there and it’s solid like it is now, but as soon as something weighing 4,000 to 8,000 pounds hits it, it sinks like a rock,” said Gann.
Gann and Severson said seeing the relief on people’s faces once their car or truck is free from the sand is the best feeling.
