JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police in Mississippi are investigating a shooting with similar circumstances to a fatal shooting at Old Dominion Freight Line in Jacksonville on Monday.
The shooting in Richland, Mississippi, happened Tuesday. CBS station WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi, reports a man shot an employee at Southeastern Freight Lines and then the gunman killed himself. The victim then drove himself to the hospital, suffered several gunshot wounds and his condition is unknown.
The police chief in Richland confirms his officers are talking with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office about the shooting at Old Dominion in Jacksonville. Action News Jax has reached out to JSO for more information as well.
The Richland police chief has not said there is a definite connection.
“I'm not sure, whether there was a termination, he was there and now he's not. I have no idea,” said Chief W.R. James, Richland Police Department. “It appears one of our individuals was currently employed there, you could suppose that this was some type of agitated ex-employee, but we don't know that.”
In the Jacksonville shooting, 50-year-old Marty Coffey was shot and killed by a suspect driving a white car outside Old Dominion on the Westside. The suspect was not found.
Coffey's LinkedIn account states he is a former employee of Southeastern Freight Lines, where the Mississippi shooting happened.
Police in Mississippi think the suspect in that case could be a disgruntled employee or ex-employee.
