WEST AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The mother of an 18-year-old who was one of two people killed in West Augustine is calling for the suspect in their deaths to turn himself in to deputies.
Keiwuan Je'vante Murray, 18, was found dead on W. 4th Street, 1 1/2 miles from where a young mother was killed.
Murray's mother Katishia Smith went to school with Johnny Williams Jr., the sole suspect in their deaths.
“For him to murder my son, is and knowing he knows his mother, he grew up with his mother, same homeroom as his mother, it’s hard,” said Smith.
Deputies said Williams killed his girlfriend Jamie Wilson in front of their 2-month-old son and Wilson’s 4-year-old niece.
After the shooting, deputies said Williams drove to West 4th Street, where he opened fire on three people, including Murray.
Smith said she is heartbroken by the loss of her son.
“It’s very hard to lose a child, no matter how old they are," Smith said. “I only had him, what it feels like a short amount of time. Only 18 years and he was just taken away, from me, from us.”
Smith says there have been rumors that her son was somehow involved with Wilson’s death, but she and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said Jamie Wilson's death had nothing to do with the second shooting.
“He took that away from me and my family, and I can’t never get that back, at all,” said Smith.
Smith said she wants Williams to turn himself in.
"He just needs to turn himself in, and don’t take the cowardly way out of it," Smith said.
Both families are planning funeral services for their loved ones.
