Murder suspect from Brevard County captured in Melrose

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A murder suspect on the run from Central Florida was captured in Putnam County Monday night.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said law enforcement from Putnam and Alachua counties, including SWAT, K9 and Florida Fish and Wildlife, responded to Shiloh Road and State Road 26 in Melrose after a car crashed into a building during an attempted traffic stop.

Following the crash, the driver, Qiana Taylor, 35, and passenger, Shikeem Mallett, 30, ran from the scene on foot but were quickly captured.

Mallett is wanted on a second-degree murder charge out of Brevard County. Police say he is being held without bond and awaiting transfer to the Brevard County jail.

Taylor was charged for fleeing and eluding and taken to the Putnam County jail.
