ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — St. Augustine police are investigating how a naked man ended up on top of Spanish Main Antiques.

Marc Anthony owns Spanish Main Antiques. He says it all happened the morning of July 3. He woke up to calls from a customer that had his personal cell, saying, “they said my building was surrounded by fire trucks, so the first thing I’m thinking is, my buildings on fire I’ve lost everything I own.”

But that was not the case. His wife Jill Pacettie explained, “he calls me and says there’s a naked guy on the roof. It wasn’t a fire, thank god.”

42-year-old David Mosley had crawled onto their roof at some point, taken his clothes off and touched a window that accesses a private room in the shop. His fingerprints were still visible. The roof had just been done and the epoxy hadn’t dried so when he touched the window, it left clear markings.

“I was like, ‘well how long has he been up there?’ And that’s when I found his clothes on top of the roof and there is his fingerprints from the day before,” Anthony said.

His wife told Action News Jax, “you feel very violated.”

She explained they used to live in the building and that a private room was important.

“The window where the guy was trying to break into that we’re assuming it’s where he left his clothing — that was our daughter’s bedroom at one time. She was nine years old when we lived here. I will probably move out the next day.”

The suspect was charged with trespassing and indecency. The couple doesn’t know the motive.

“Well, it gives you a whole new way of looking at the problems we’re having with homelessness and mental health issues,” Anthony said.

The couple tells us they’ve taken this as even further proof the city needs resources for those struggling — in part to prevent things like this from happening again.

“We have a bunch of cool stuff in here as it is but that’s not something people on vacation are expecting to see on top of a building that seems impossible to get on top of.”

They have also started adding more cameras to the area, and the police will be patrolling it even more.
