NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A 12-year-old student was arrested Thursday after the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said he brought three guns to school.

According to an arrest report, the boy was seen carrying two lunch boxes, that seemed heavier than usual by a teacher.

The teacher asked to see the lunch box and the student reluctantly allowed her.

Inside the lunch boxes, authorities said they found two firearms. The student reportedly said he brought the firearms to school to show the principal.

NCSO also spoke with the student’s mother who told deputies, he recently “accidentally killed” the family dog with a pellet rifle while he was left unsupervised.

When asked how her son was able to access the guns, she told deputies that she previously unlocked the gun safe and thought she had locked it.

The student was taken to another room while deputies spoke with the school administration about the criminal elements of the case. While being supervised by another deputy, it was discovered that the student had a third gun on him and the deputy quickly secured it.

When deputies searched his desk, they found a drawing of a man outside of a school with guns. NCSO said in the drawing, the man was surrounded by several dead bodies covered in red marker, signifying blood.

The student was arrested and booked into the Nassau County Detention Facility. He faces a charge of possessing or discharging weapons or firearms at a school-sponsored event or on school property.

It’s unclear if any other charges will be filed.

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office shared a picture of the three guns the student brought to school.
