FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — The Fernandina Beach Police Department announced an arrest connected to the mysterious death of beloved pet sitter Colleen Potts.

When police arrived at the home, the garage door and interior door were wide open, with the dogs running freely. Potts was found dead on the couch, police said.

On Dec. 16, Fernandina Beach police and the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office served search warrants at a Fernandina Beach home. The results of the search warrants plus the additional evidence that has been discovered during the investigation led to the arrest of Shawn Lamont Wigham.

The police said Wigham is a local handyman and is familiar with the area and the owner of the residence.

According to officials, Potts died from a single gunshot wound. They would not specify where she was shot.

Officials also said Wigham broke into Potts car the night before, and that her purse was missing from the home when she was found.

Wigham has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, homicide, and burglary, according to FBPD.

According to the Fernandina Beach deputy chief, Wigham’s prior felony was for the sale and delivery of cocaine in Nassau County.
