DEADLY CRASH: Family of 4 crashes into tractor-trailer in Yulee, grandmother dies

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Action News Jax’s Meghan Moriarty spoke with a truck driver who helped rescue two children from a deadly I-95 crash. Click here to watch on CBS47 at Noon.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on I-95 southbound at mile marker 376 right after State Road 200 Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 3:35 a.m.

Lanes were closed for hours in the area but have since reopened.

Action News Jax reporter Meghan Moriarty spoke with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and they told her that a family of four was traveling north on I-95 when they went across the median and crossed into the southbound lanes.

It is unclear why the vehicle traveled into the southbound lanes.

DOT tells Moriarty that their car collided with a tractor-trailer.

Two people were ejected from the vehicle, according to FHP. They tell us that the passenger, a 67-year-old woman, died. The victim was a grandmother, according to DOT

A report from FHP, says that an 8-year-old and 10-year old girl were seriously injured. A 48-year-old woman also suffered from serious injuries.

The 67-year-old tractor-trailer driver walked away with no injuries.

FHP is investigating what caused the crash.
