YULEE, Fla. — The man charged in the death of Nassau County deputy Eric Oliver has entered a guilty plea to a charge of aggravated manslaughter.

Oliver was hit and killed by a car on State Road 200 on Nov. 22, 2016, while chasing Francisco Portillo-Fuentes, a suspect fleeing from federal officers.

On the court document containing Portillo-Fuentes’ plea, there is a sentence that reads, “I hereby enter my plea of guilty because I am guilty.” The portion of the sentence that says, “I am guilty” is crossed out and replaced with “it’s in my best interest.”

Portillo-Fuentes could be sentenced to 0-12 years with credit for time served since he was arrested on the date of Oliver’s death, the document states.

Portillo-Fuentes was in the country illegally at the time of Oliver’s death and had been deported twice before.
