GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — 10 THINGS TO KNOW: Cory Sasser involved in 2010 police shooting that killed mom of 2

Homeowners on Hunters Drive in Glynn County said they watched the final moments of Cory Sasser’s life unfold before their eyes.

Neighbors said they saw Sasser speed around a corner in a truck and pull into his driveway, moments before SWAT officers swarmed into the Brunswick neighborhood Thursday night.

“There was a chase from McIntosh County to Glynn County, and then you could see all the police cars rolling in at that house," neighbor Dan Furtado said.

Furtado said the SWAT officer fired tear gas canisters and rubber pellets in an attempt to get him to come out of the vehicle, or to determine if Sasser was alive.

Another neighbor, Harley Rich, said the sounds woke him up around 10:30 p.m.

"My wife seemed to count them; she said there were like 24, 25 when all was said and done. I noticed the shots did not sound like regular shots to me,” Rich said.

Neighbors said they weren't close with Sasser but said he was well-known in the community -- and so were his legal issues.

"Maybe he was trying to get some help, get some things worked out with the court system. It’s just a sad day for whatever did happen,” Rich said.

People in nearby houses explained SWAT officers tried to coax Sasser out of the truck for hours without success.

Community members said they noticed his temper flaring in the weeks leading up to the incident.

“People’s personal lives cause them to snap every now and again,” said Furtado.
