JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Neptune Beach teen who admitted to killing his grandmother spoke in court Wednesday.

The judge said Logan Mott will be sentenced on Dec. 19.

"It feels like a bad dream. Every morning when I wake up, I relive the consequences," Logan Mott said in court Wednesday.

He said he doesn't know why he killed his grandmother, Kristina French.

His father said he didn't see the signs. He asked the judge to spare his son the maximum 40-year prison sentence he could face after his guilty plea.

"My mom loved Logan more than anything," Eric Mott said. "Locking Logan away for an extended period of time would be like killing my mom all over again."

Logan Mott said he loved his grandmother and remembers her as a funny and kind person who had a giving heart.

"This is entirely my fault. I'll never be more ashamed and sorry for what I've done," he said.

The sentencing hearing comes two years after police started searching for Logan Mott and Kristina French.

Mott was 15 years old when investigators say he killed his grandmother Kristina French at his Neptune Beach home.

He was arrested trying to cross the border into Canada.

During testimony, investigators said he was part of a communist chatroom and wanted to move to Russia. They said French got in the way of that, and that's why he killed her.

Mott, now 17, faces between 15 to 40 years in prison.
