JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — There’s no denying that COVID-19 has stolen countless milestones. Many high schoolers didn’t get a proper graduation ceremony, homecoming, or prom.
Allison Bisnett just graduated on Sunday. She leaves high school with four years of memories -- except Junior and Senior prom. She’d been planning for it since middle school.
“This was kind of the one big thing we really got to look forward to,” Allison said.
Her mom, Angela Bisnett, is changing that.
“It is a right of passage. For years they look forward to all those special moments... I wanted her to have that, she’s my one and only daughter and my oldest, and I wanted her to have something special,” Angela said.
Angela, with the help of other parents, are putting on a “mask-erade” prom for Christ Church Academy’s Class of 2021. They’re expecting about 60 people.
“My mom is a party planner, loves this kind of thing, so I know it’s going to be amazing,” Allison said.
Angela says there will be hand sanitizer, temperature checks, and individual snacks so guests aren’t dipping into the same bowl of food. Angela says masks are optional.
For Allison, getting one final hoo-rah is the perfect end to her high school career.
“It’s gonna be bittersweet; I might not see a lot of these people after tonight, but it’s really sweet to have one last big event with them,” she said.
