ORANGE PARK, Fla. — RELATED: 14-year-old arrested for threatening Florida high school
An online threat has some Oakleaf High School students considering staying home on Thursday.
An Action News Jax viewer sent us a post that warns about an unstable student shooting up the school because he has no friends and saw the other shootings.
Will Edwards, a junior at the school, told Action News Jax that he is "Not sure whether to take it seriously or not. There’s a lot of different things that happen.”
Deputies are investigating after the threat. The Clay County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook that the agency was informed of a concerning social media message involving Oakleaf High School Wednesday.
Parents sent Action News Jax photos of a post that reads:
"My cousin has a bad disorder and he's planning on shooting Oakleaf Highschool (sic) because he saw the other shootings and plus the students there don't talk to him. He has 0 friends. Student and teachers please stay home and stay safe Thursday February 22. Watch out. #prayingforoakleaf"
The statement said the district does not tolerate this type of behavior. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the school is safe.
“If they prepare for it and nothing does happen then, hey, that’s a training experience," a parent, Tina Herbert, said. "At least you’re easing students' and parents' minds that, 'Hey, we are prepared for this. We don’t take this lightly.'"
