Jacksonville Beach shooting:Suspect in officer-involved shootout arrested

UPDATED STORY: The shooting suspect in Wednesday night's shooting is facing two counts of attempted murder after shooting at Jacksonville Beach officers, authorities said in a media briefing.

The shooting suspect, identified as Jovan Sisljagic, 27, was shot three times and was taken to the hospital but has since been released.

Sisljagic was involved in a shootout with officers in the parking lot of a nearby Waffle House where 16-year veteran, officer William "Bill" Eierman was shot twice, according to Jacksonville Beach police.

Eierman is expected to make a full recovery and is in good spirits, officials said.

A police officer and a gunman are in a hospital following a shootout in Jacksonville Beach Wednesday night, authorities said.

According to police, a Jacksonville Beach officer was driving in a patrol car on Beach Boulevard when a suspect walking in the 500 block of Beach Boulevard began shooting at the officer.

When the officer confronted the suspect, officials said the suspect ran east on Beach Boulevard and was confronted by two other officers outside the Waffle House on Beach Boulevard and 3rd Street.

Police said gunfire was exchanged between the officers and the suspect. An officer and the suspect were shot and taken to a hospital. Jacksonville Beach police said the injuries are not life-threatening.

The officer was shot twice -- but is stable and in good spirits, authorities told Action News Jax.

Police have not released the suspect's condition or identity at this time.

More information will be released in an 8 a.m. news briefing on Thursday.
