CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday, a female student at Orange Park High School was cited for repeating a false threat.
The student was given a juvenile citation and suspended from school.
Deputies said the incident caused a massive disruption on campus Wednesday as deputies investigated.
Schools and deputies stepped up security across all Clay County campuses on the somber anniversary of the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
“Today we’ve extended our resources even more than what we normally have into our school systems,” said Clay County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Chris Padgett.
Students reported a commotion on campus Wednesday at Orange Park High School.

“Someone was making threats. I saw it on SnapChat. Everyone was reposting it,” said Orange Park student Michelle.
Investigators determined the female student made it all up.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said that over the last 12 months since Parkland, it received about 20 calls for service at different schools concerning threats, disruptions, and false firearms reports.
None of the threats were found to be credible.
Padgett said even if the threats are not credible, students need to be aware that it will be taken seriously.
“The Clay County Sheriff’s Office isn’t playing around,” said Padgett.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said it has investigated 110 incidents of threats to schools since Parkland. None of them were credible.
