Outpouring of grief in Nassau County after deputy's death

YULEE, Fla. — Deputy Eric Oliver was struck and killed while pursuing a suspect on foot on State Road 200 in Yulee. Several Action News Jax viewers wrote on Facebook that they recognized Det. Oliver from his rounds in that area of Nassau County.

Zaxby district manager Joshua Hodge immediately recognized Det. Oliver.

“It’s a small community and police officers come in here all the time for lunch,” Hodge said. “[He came] in here all the time. It’s so sad.”

Nassau Counrty residents lined the the streets to pay their respects to Dep. Oliver as his remains were taken to Oxley-Herd Funeral Home in Fernandina beach.

We have a really good community, and its nice for us all to come together at a time like this,” said Nassau County resident Elisha Mock. “We all need to be there for each other.”
