JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — The popular restaurant, Angie’s Subs has been a staple in Jacksonville Beach for nearly 40 years.

Soon, customers could be noticing changes on the property.

The owner, Edward Malin, has applied for a Land Development Code Text Amendment, asking the city for permission to build a distillery on commercial property. His expansion also includes a new barbecue restaurant next to Angie’s Subs.

“Growth and change are inevitable, and we are a hot market and a hot commodity here at the beach,” Malin said.

The expansion includes a three-story building for the distillery.

Malin has partnered with a friend for his bourbon business.

He plans to build it on the east side of the existing parking lot, possibly putting the barbecue restaurant behind it, with a courtyard.

Parking will be a major factor in the development.

Malin said he is working to fit all three establishments on the same property, but he has to make room for sufficient parking.

“The potential exists where we can do the distillery and the barbecue joint and leave Angie’s right here where it’s at, which would be the ideal situation,” Malin said.

If the city approves his application, he said the next phase is design.

He hopes to have the expansion complete in the next four years.
