Paxon School placed on precautionary lockdown due to police activity

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE:

The school district told Action News Jax the school responses began early this morning as police began searching for a suicidal person believed to be in the area.

Paxon was placed on lockdown, while James Weldon Johnson was on a lockout.

Paxon and the surrounding neighborhood were searched, but no evidence of the person or a threat to safety was found.

As a precaution, the two schools remained on a precautionary lockout for the rest of the school day.

Paxon and James Weldon Johns schools in Jacksonville are on lockdown Friday morning due to police activity in the neighborhood, according to Duval County Public Schools.

The following message was sent to parents:

Hello Paxon and James Weldon Johnson families. This is DCPS. Students and staff are safe. Both schools are on a lockdown as a precaution due to police activity in neighborhood. No one is allowed to enter or leave school during lockout. Standby for updates.
