Jacksonville, Fla. — Much more than just luggage arrived at the Jacksonville Amtrak station Wednesday morning.
Investigators intercepted at least two suitcases filled with drugs from a passenger arriving from New York.
Photos shared with Action News Jax show a man being detained.
Another woman’s backpack was also checked, but she was not detained.
Action News Jax law and safety expert Dale Carson said it’s possible investigators had been tailing him all along.
“Probably not here in Jacksonville, but in other areas they would just know that those particular suitcases contained certain drugs and they would let it move on through,” said Carson. “The objective is not just to collect the narcotic, but the objective for law enforcement is to find out who’s all connected.”
The DEA wouldn’t confirm what type of drugs they were or how much the passenger was carrying.
Because Amtrak is federal property, the suspect could face federal penalties.
