ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A local family lost their home in an early morning fire Wednesday but thanks to the quick action by firefighters, they did not lose their beloved pet, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.

Multiple units with SJFR responded to Marlee Road W. after receiving reports of a fire.

Crews say the family had already evacuated the home safely by the time they arrived but that the family’s dog was still inside.

Firefighters entered the burning resident, where they located the dog.

The canine, according to Fire Rescue, required oxygen for a short period of time but was otherwise unharmed.

SJFR say the fire was extinguished quickly and there were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In a Facebook post, Fire Rescue say the Red Cross is assisting the family.
