2 hurt in I-95 plane crash in Flagler County

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said two people suffered minor injuries after a single-engine plane crashed on I-95 northbound Monday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol’s website, the plane went down at MM279 just south of Old Dixie Parkway near Palm Coast.

The aircraft is a 1949 CESSNA 195 and registered to a resident of Port Orange.

FHP released the following statement following the crash:

“The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating a crash that occurred on I-95 northbound near Mile Marker 279. This crash is involving a small single-engine aircraft and tractor-trailer combination.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that, for reasons still under investigation, the aircraft lost power and the pilot was attempting an emergency landing on the northbound lanes of I-95. As the pilot was attempting this maneuver, the aircraft’s wing collided with the tractor-trailer combination and was redirected into the tree line.”

“The pilot and co-pilot were able to exit the aircraft on their own with minor injuries. It was stated that the pilot departed the New Smyrna Beach area and was traveling to Flagler Airport. Federal authorities have been contacted for further investigation.”
