Police reported Mack appeared to have been shot. The road was roped off for hours Sunday morning as police investigated.

Mack's family says he had big dreams of playing college football in college. He was focused on the sport and stayed out of trouble, his family said.

“While most kids rather party, do drugs, stuff like that, he was working harder, trying to make it out,” said Rod Ludaway, Mack's cousin.

This fall, Mack was supposed to play football at Alabama Prep Sports Academy with hopes of later transferring to a bigger school.

Family members said this is a tragic loss.

“It was real shocking because he never really goes out. And he was all about football and his work,” said Jakeria Wilson, Mack's cousin.

JSO is continuing to pursue leads.
