Police are investigating after a teen was shot while leaving The Jacksonville Fairgrounds Saturday.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office began investigating after an 18-year-old was dropped off at UF Health Jacksonville with a gunshot wound to the back at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday.
The teen told police that he was leaving the fairgrounds when he heard gunshots, then felt a sharp pain in his back.
The teen's friend, who was driving, took him to UF Health Jacksonville and left, the teen said.
When asked for his friend's name, the victim told police, "That's my homeboy. I don't want to get him involved in this."
He said he didn't see who fired the shots or where they came from.
Six cars were hit by gunfire in the area where the teen was shot, a police report says.
No one was inside the cars.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's aggravated battery unit is investigating the shooting.
