ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A 175-acre wildfire in St. Johns County is now 90 percent contained.
The fire started after a prescribed burn got out of hand. A private organization was burning materials in the area near International Golf Parkway when the flames got out of control around 2:30 p.m.
An additional 51 acres burned on top of the 125-acre prescribed burn.
Multiple crews fought the flames. The land owner was doing the burn and they requested assistance from the Florida Forest Service.
The burn was blowing smoke towards Ponte Vedra Beach and may affect roadways.
Florida Highway Patrol said visibility may deteriorate quickly due to smoke and fog. Troopers are asking drivers to reduce speed and use low beam headlights to avoid danger.
