JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Southbank skyline could soon see a major facelift at a familiar spot. Renderings show a high-rise could take the place of the old site of River City Brewing.
The building, which is 24-stories tall, would be the third highest on the Southbank. Plans show more than 400 multi-family units, a restaurant with outdoor dining on the St. Johns River, and parking garage.

The plans built up mixed reviews from residents and visitors alike.
“It’s kind of concerning. There’s this beautiful space here on the river. It kind of takes away from enjoying the walk,” Christine Bell said. “I think the plans down here look great. A residential area with access to the parks. The bridges. I think it will be a nice boost for the entire area,” Hans Reigle said.
The new plan is triple the height of the original plans from eight to 24 stories.
The Downtown Development Review Board recommends approval saying, “This design promotes visual interest and adds variety to the profile of the Southbank skyline.”
The DDRB will discuss the plans at its meeting next Thursday.
