Report: Florida woman found unconscious at Publix with jug of sangria

A West Palm Beach woman found unconscious Thursday night inside her parked car at a Publix Super Market had a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit, according to an arrest report.

While the woman was passed out inside the vehicle, three of her four children got out of the car through a sunroof and played in the packed parking lot at the Publix at Woolbright Road and Federal Highway, Boynton Beach police said.

Leonica Patricia Sears, 34, faces four counts of child neglect and one count each of DUI and driving with a suspended license. She was released from the Palm Beach County Jail Saturday after posting a $5,000 bond.

Sears had her blood-alcohol level tested three times and registered readings of .336, .366 and .358. Each is more than four times the legal limit of .08.

Police found a half-empty 3-liter jug of sangria sitting on the front passenger seat, the report said.

A witness saw Sears’ children climbing out of her 2005 Acura and went to alert the woman, the report said. When the witness approached the vehicle, she found Sears unconscious in the driver’s seat.

The witness ran after the children to make sure they would not to struck by a car. When the witness returned to the Acura, she found Sears unconscious again, this time in the back seat, the report said.

Another witness saw Sears drink from the sangria jug.

Sears’ blood-alcohol level was so high that she was taken to Bethesda Hospital East as a precaution, police said.
