First responders said they've put out the 37.5-acre brush fire in Yulee that forced the evacuation of nearby residents.

Gusty winds in the area are making it difficult for firefighters to contain the fire. The fire started off Barnwell Road behind a Lowe's store, Nassau County Emergency Management said.

Up to ten homes were threatened but have not been damaged, officials said.

Oneil-Scott and Barnwell road reopened after being closed for several hours. Residents in the area are safe to go back to their homes.

Drivers should avoid taking SR 202 near Oneil-Scott Road, officials said. The fire started near a railroad and railway traffic has been halted, officials said.
