JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Your health and safety is the reason we go out every week to get answers about the places where you love to eat. In this week's original Restaurant Report, Action News Jax's Ben Becker tells you about violations that inspectors found at local restaurants.

Becker paid a visit to La Nopalera Mexican Restaurant on Phillips Highway near Baymeadows Road. When he asked to speak to management about the live roaches, a worker was sent to speak to Becker instead. State inspectors found the following violations:

  • 17 live roaches
  • A wall soiled with accumulated grease
  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures

The restaurant was temporarily closed.

Cartel Kitchen Seafood & More on San Jose Boulevard near Crown Point Road was cited for the following, causing it to temporarily close:

  • 50 rodent droppings on a waffle iron
  • An employee handling food without washing their hands
  • Hot water was not provided

Inspectors say Stan's Sandwich & Grill at Hendricks Avenue and Lasalle Street had:

  • 24 live roaches
  • 20 dead roaches
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food

The restaurant was temporarily closed.

At Casa Dora Italian Café on East Forsyth Street and Ocean Street, inspectors found:

  • 50 rodent droppings
  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • A mold-like substance on soda nozzles.

It was also temporarily closed.

All the restaurants mentioned have passed follow-up inspections.
