JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Saharan dust has arrived in the Jacksonville area.
First Alert Meteorologist Alyssa Pejic said the dust will move in Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, giving us hazy skies and hindering some chances for rain.

The Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team says this is how Saharan dust can impact the tropics:
- Generally limits tropical storms and hurricanes
- The dry air can weaken a storm
- Strong winds can increase vertical wind shear
- Hazy skies create nice sunrises and sunsets

However, it will slightly lower the air quality and could cause increased breathing issues for sensitive groups.

Our area saw some Saharan dust in May.
We may see more plumes of dust during the remainder of the summer.
