Sandollar Restaurant raises funds for repair of Huguenot Park after Hurricane Matthew

Broken roads, jagged edges and rocks and debris had to be repaired.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Sandollar Restaurant wrapped up a 3-day effort to raise funds for Huguenot Park.

The park has been closed since it sustained nearly $1 million of damage during Hurricane Matthew.

Jacksonville city council plans to spend $500,000 to fix roads leading to the park.

That leaves another $500,000 in other damage.

The Sandollar depends on the park for business, so the owner held a silent auction and events this weekend to raise money to give to the city.

“We can do our part, we can't do it all. This is a start for everyone else too. Maybe the city will look at it and say, 'Hey lets start working on it too,'" Jay McKenzie, owner of Sandollar, said.
