The Florida Highway Patrol said a semi and box truck were involved in a deadly crash in Nassau County on Thursday morning.
The crash occurred on Interstate 95 northbound at State Road 200 near the Yulee exit.
FHP has confirmed one fatality and does not know the extent of the injuries to the other driver.
All northbound lanes are blocked. Earlier Thursday, FHP recommended that drivers use SR 200 as an alternate route.
Thursday afternoon, FHP released new information on the crash.
They stated the driver of the box truck, a 56-year-old man from Woodbine, Georgia, was headed south on I-95 when he lost control, hit the guardrail and went into northbound traffic.
FHP said that driver has serious injuries.
Troopers said the driver of the semi he hit -- a 54-year-old man from Plant City, Florida -- was killed.
Timothy Waeghe was caught in the back-up for hours.
“Roughly about two and a half, three hours, so it's crazy,” Waeghe said.
“It's darn near a parking lot,” driver Michael Webb said. “We've been sitting in it for about an hour.”
Webb's family got caught in the chaos trying to leave town.
“It’s] very frustrating,” Webb said. “We're trying to go out of town on vacation, now we're stuck here.”
