ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The sister of a young mother who was gunned down in front of two young children in West Augustine Tuesday said she saw warning signs in her sister's relationship with the main suspect in her death.
Jamie Wilson, 24, was shot and killed on Rollins Avenue. Keiwuan Je'vante Murray, 18, was found dead on W. 4th Street, 1 1/2 miles from where Wilson was killed.
Police are searching for Wilson's boyfriend, 36-year-old Johnny Lawrence Williams Jr., in connection with their deaths.
Wilson had just put her and Williams' 2-month-old in a stroller after they arrived at a home on Rollins Avenue. Wilson's 4-year-old niece was also with them.
Deputies said they do not know why Williams brandished a hand gun and allegedly shot Wilson moments later.
Williams hit the stroller with his 2-month-old inside as he drove off in a silver car. The baby was not dropped, as originally thought Tuesday by investigators.
“It's a miracle that child is still with us today and is doing fine after being checked by doctors," said St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar.
Williams drove to W. 4th Street, where he switched guns and opened fire on Murray and two other people, deputies said.
Murray was killed and another woman was shot in the shoulder and hand. Nearby homes were also hit by gun fire, according to deputies.
Shoar said Williams shot at the group because of an ongoing dispute and deputies do not believe the second shooting had anything to do with Wilson's death.
Williams drove to the west end of W. 4th Street, abandoned the silver car and ran into the woods still armed with a rifle. He got into a maroon Ford Contour and left the area.
Inside the silver car police found a gun, which they believe Williams used to shoot Wilson, deputies said.
Officers in Jacksonville recovered the maroon car and a pistol on Kenmore Street late Tuesday night.
Deputies are still searching for Williams, who is considered armed and dangerous.
Family tells Action News Jax that Wilson's relationship with Williams was abusive.
"We just kept warning Jamie," her sister Alesia Wilson said. "She was just really in a bad situation. She just was scared to let us know."
Alesia Wilson said she told her sister to leave Williams and come home but she was scared.
"It’s just sad of the circumstances of when she met this man," Alesia Wilson said.
Murray's mother Katishia Smith said she went to school with Williams, who is known as Casper.
"For him to murder my son, is and knowing he knows his mother, he grew up with his mother, same homeroom as his mother, it’s hard," said Smith.
Smith said her son had nothing to do with Jamie Wilson's murder.
"You lived 36 plus years, now my son only lived 18 years," said Smith. "He just needs to turn himself in and don’t take the cowardly way out of it. Turn yourself in."
Alesia Wilson said she and her family are taking it a day at a time. She started a GoFundMe page to raise money to help raise Jamie Wilson's son.
