ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Despite the rainy weather, tourists and locals alike made the most of their Easter Sunday in St. Augustine.

Mary Daly, a tourist from New Jersey, said that the weather didn’t dampen her vacation spirit.

“It’s 70-80 degrees at home, but it’s not like that here. But we’re having a great time,” Mary stated.

Daly wasn’t alone in her sentiment. Beau Mercer, who came to celebrate his anniversary from South Carolina, said, “Weather it is what is, just have to have fun and enjoy it regardless.”

However, the First Alert Weather team warned that the weather won’t be letting up anytime soon.

Water levels could reach 2-4 feet above normally dry ground at the immediate coast and the St. Johns River, with much more rain in the forecast.

Despite the ominous forecast, Colin Kratz, the bar manager at Casa Reina along the bayfront, said they’re not too worried.

“We’re high up enough out of the water when it floods over the seawall there, it doesn’t come into our property at all,” he said. “Everything we have set up here is high winds and high rainfall. It’s all hurricane windows. I don’t think we will have an issue as far as weather goes.”

Kratz was also happy to see people show up despite the weather.

“A lot of people are staying home with the family and doing that kind of thing, but as I said, we’re blessed to have the volume today. I’d rather have a couple of people here enjoying tacos and tequila than none at all,” he said.

Mary Daly didn’t let the weather stop her from her morning walks either.

“I walk every morning even though it’s raining. I don’t care. Just put on a jacket and go,” she said.

Although it was a soggy Easter in St. Augustine, the resilience of its residents and tourists shone through the rain.
