Stephen Conner, the son of longtime Charlton County Sheriff Ernest "Dobie" Conner, was killed in a car crash on State Road 121 Tuesday shortly after 9 p.m.
Authorities said Conner was in a Toyota Tacoma that left the road and struck a tree at the intersection of Georgia Highway 121 and 121 and Georgia Highway 185.
The crash is still under investigation and authorities don't know if alcohol was a factor.
Charlton County is among the hardest hit in the West Mims wildfire.
