ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County Deputies are searching for a priest who hasn't been seen since Sunday.

Father Rene Robert, 71, was reported missing Tuesday.

The Dioceses said Robert works with them in a limited capacity serving at the San Sebastian Catholic Church and St. Anastasia Catholic Church.

"Father Gillespie, who works very closely with Father Rene, had called in to let us know that nobody had heard or seen from Father Rene since Sunday around 1 o'clock," said Kathleen Bagg, Diocese of St. Augustine Director of Communications.

Father Rene posted on Facebook Sunday afternoon that he was visiting a patient at Orange Park Medical Center.

"Father Gillespie had been contacted saying that father didn't show up for a funeral on Sunday and they were concerned because that's just not like him," said Bagg. "He's very punctual and always shows up when he's supposed to be some place."

Father Rene's disappearance is uncharacteristic and not in keeping with his normal activities.

"It's certainly out of character for Father Rene not to be heard or seen from because he's very active on social media, posts just about everywhere he goes and what he's doing. He's into Twitter and Facebook," Bagg said.

Father Rene is 5 feet 8 inches tall and wears eyeglasses. Also missing is his 2012 blue Toyota 4-door with a Florida Special Olympics tag of SBA 594.

Anyone with any information concerning this investigation is asked to contact SJSO Major Crimes Detectives with at (904) 824-8304.
