PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — THE PLAYERS Championship said play will be suspended for the rest of the day Friday due to “unplayable golf course conditions.”

Before play was suspended on Friday at 11:15 a.m., golfers were able to get about four hours of golf in. THE PLAYERS officials said play will not resume until at least 11 a.m. Saturday.

The PGA Tour said players may finish the hole they were on at the time of suspension.

On Thursday, play was halted for four hours due to inclement weather.

PGA Tour officials told Action Sports Jax’s Brent Martineau the course has gotten 2.5 inches of rain in the past 24 hours.

If they are unable to resume play on Friday, Tour officials said they are likely in a situation where they will have to finish the tournament on Monday.

Tour officials said they are anticipating winds that could be in the neighborhood of 60 mph on Saturday, and the pace of play will be slower.

However, even with the predicted wind, PGA Tour officials said Saturday will be normal operating procedures in terms of fans being allowed on the course.

While Tour officials say they are confident they can finish the tournament on Monday, the possibility of a Tuesday finish is there.
