Boat crashes into Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine

A boat began taking on water after it broke lose and wedged itself under the Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine Friday morning.

Marine units with the St. Augustine Fire Department were able to rescue three adults, one child and two pets, that were on board.

The boat was freed and taken to a nearby dock safely. There were no injuries.

The fire department shared video of the boat on its Facebook page. First Alert Weather Meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh said winds were at 20+ mph with gusts up of to 30 mph in the area.

Friday is a First Alert Weather Day as a heavy local nor’easter moves in closer to the Jacksonville coast. It’s expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds, beach erosion, tidal flooding and high surf.
