ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Augustine Police Department is laying out its plans to deploy body cameras.
Leaders said it is all about promoting transparency in the department which has dealt with 25 demonstrations in the city during recent months.
The department’s 58 officers are already training with the new equipment, so they’ve already purchased 60 sets of body cameras and tasers.
It is a 10-year contract with Axon Enterprise that costs $152,387 annually.

The state attorney said the equipment will speed up the courts process because it’s already in use in their office. It also allows local families to connect their own videos to the case.
City leaders said they’re deploying the body cameras within the first eight to 10 days of December.
The cameras and the system will be able to capture, upload, manage, and share video. Features of the body cameras include:

· Human field of view
· Configurable pre-event buffer
· Automatic and manual activation
· Cloud-based video, photo storage
· Redaction assist
· Automatic system upgrades
